Human + Machine > Human or Machine: In Chess, Investments, etc.

Updated: Aug 22

Many fans of AI and Chess know that IBM's Deep Blue beat Garry Kasparov in 1997. However, what many don't know is that this eventually led to Human + Computers competing with more advanced super computers and grand masters. In 2005, two amateur chess players Zackary Stephen and Steven Cramton working with 3 PCs beat out grand masters and super computers. This combination of human + machine has since proven impossible to beat.

"Weak human + machine + superior process was greater than a strong computer and, remarkably, greater than a strong human + machine with an inferior process."

Garry Kasparov

What does this mean in general?

The future belongs to those who can work with AI effectively. The strong process for collaborating with AI is what is going to matter the most. This is going to be true for fields such as investing, medicine, engineering, etc. Imagine a world where the average Scientists, Economist and Writers are performing at Nobel Laureate levels. This is the world we are going to live in 5 to 10 years from now.

How will this impact Investing?

This is an area that has been studied and a few papers have been published (see references below). The opportunity to combine the computer's ability to process vast amounts of data, perform accurate calculations, represent it visually in 2D/3D then add human intuition has been very compelling in the investment space. Just as Artificial Intelligence has improved so has our ability to Augment Intelligence. SBC (Semantic Brain Corp.) has been developing a breakthrough platform and products in this space. SBC's original demo videos below provide glimpse into how one may augment investor intelligence.
